Val Frejus is one of the new breed of purpose built ski resorts.  No concrete monstrosity this, but a charming low rise, alpine village, combining pedestrianised areas with doorstep skiing, a warm welcome and family friendly facilities.  This is an alpine village like they used to be.  It combines all the benefits of a modern ski resort with the charm of the heart of the central French Alps, a natural snow bowl ski resort with the modern technology of state of the art lift systems and artificial snow making.

Communications are good too – less than two hours to Lyon airport, and less than three to Geneva airport.  The motorway comes direct from Calais to within half an hour of the resort (coach driving time from Calais is around 11 hours, including stops), and there is a mainline railway station in Modane (40 minutes away), where the T.G.V. high speed trains stop.

Two ski schools, a lively resort animation team organising events in and around the centre of the resort after skiing and before dinner, a snow park, cross country skiing, a range of alpine skiing from basic beginner slopes to heart stopping mogul fields and stacks of off-piste. There is no shortage of apres ski options here.

The ski area is not the biggest in the world, but then holiday prices here reflect this.  If you do fancy a day out in the indisputably biggest ski area, then a short bus ride away is the Orelle cable car, which whisks you straight up to the top end of the Three Valleys, just above Val Thorens.
