Self Catering Apartments

Self-catering accommodation in ski resorts is a means to an end, and that end is often to minimize the cost associated with your holiday. With this in mind, there are some generalities which should be borne in mind when booking this type of accommodation.

You need to be aware that the majority of accommodation can be fairly restricted in size, and French apartments tend to be smaller than their Italian counterparts. Most apartments are for four people. There are some for two, three, five, six and even up to eight or nine – but four is the norm.

We base our prices on full occupancy of these apartments. You may choose to book an apartment for four and only put two or three people in it, in which case we are obliged to charge under occupancy supplements.

These are quoted on our website.

Studio apartments for four consist of a rectangular block, and the interior is usually divided into four smaller separate areas – although – except for the bathroom - there are not usually any physical dividing walls between them. There are two sofa beds in the “lounge” area, which doubles as the eating area. There is a separate bathroom. The kitchen area is adjacent to the “lounge” area, and the entrance hall contains two bunk beds. To be blunt, if you occupy an apartment for four with four people, privacy is limited – if you didn’t know them well before the holiday, you certainly will afterwards ! Apartments for more than four people usually have at least one bedroom for two people. The balance of the beds would be in the living area and/or in the entrance hall as for the studio apartments. This configuration is actually very good for families with young children. Where apartments have a separate bedroom, we will make you aware of this before you book your holiday.

When you first arrive at your apartment the first thing you will need to do is find the main electricity switch and switch it on. Check also that the fridge is plugged in. Bed linen is provided, but towels and toilet paper are not usually (but check your information on the relevant resort page of the website), so you should bring these with you. Cooking and eating utensils are also provided. Televisions are generally not supplied, although you can hire them in most resorts. Most people seem to find a portable C.D. player / radio of more use. Many of the bigger resorts that cater for the British market provide an English language F.M. radio station. If you are going to shop for food, then we would suggest that you look for main course ingredients in resort. However, it may well be worth bringing small quantities of herbs and spices, salt and pepper, sweeteners, tea bags (one thing that is difficult to find) and any special dietary supplements that you require, (diabetic jam, for example). Small containers from the kitchen appliance shops are quite useful to this end.
