The S.C.O.
The Snowsport Course Organisers award is made after successful attendance of a one day course at a venue, usually within the UK. The course is hosted by a Snowsport England Coach and is a basic introduction to the considerations inherent in organising a group of students – or scouts, for example, to go away on this type of trip. So choice of tour operator, choice of destination resort, organisation of money, people and equipment are all things that are covered.
The A.S.C.L.
The Alpine Ski Course Leaders course happens during a week in an Alpine resort, but this is not necessarily the resort that you might take your group to. It covers the actual organisation of the group whilst travelling and staying away, with special attention to health and safety issues. A minimum level of skiing ability is required, and attendees should expect to be on the slopes for at least 6 hours per day, so a good standard of fitness should be present.
There is a fair amount of pre- departure preparation necessary, and there are also evening sessions after the ski day. It is a serious commitment to a serious course, but successful attendees do then come away with a serious award that is recognised by L.E.A.’s.
We have further information packs available about these courses, and these are available on request from our offices.
Our first A.S.C.L. course of the season will be held on the week beginning the 16th December 2007, in Bardonecchia, Italy. We make a charge of £499.00 to cover the course fees whilst away and the ground arrangements, and this is fully re-imbursable when you subsequently book a group of at least 20 paying students within two seasons of taking the course.
Please call with any queries – we look forward to hearing from you.
