Leysin

This resort, is in the middle of Switzerland, close to the town of Aigle, the eastern corner of Lake Geneva and an hour from the French border, this is another of the undiscovered gems that we specialise in. The inland location means that the snow record is excellent, and yet it is a resort with such a reliable sunshine record that it was chosen – some two hundred years ago – as a place of medical recuperation.

Now developed as a combination of traditional Swiss town and modern snowsport resort, it is well provided for with a six man cable car, state of the art fast, clutched chairlifts, extensive snowmaking and simply the most stunning revolving restaurant (the Kuklos). This is sited at the top of the cable car, and close to the most amazing panoramic view of the Alps, encompassing Mont Blanc, the Dents du Midi, Monte Rosa and the Matterhorn, and the tip of Lake Geneva.
The Swiss reputation for organisation and efficiency is well merited here, and links to the surrounding resorts – Les Mosses and on to the glacier at Villars, are fast and reliable, extending the ski area to one you would have trouble covering in your week there.

Your accommodation ranges from the charming wooden typical alpine chalet style Hotel Le Primevere, through the efficient if slightly soulless 2* Hotel Central, to the excellent 4* Hotel Central.

Apres ski options are afforded by a range of bars of various degrees of sophistication and a night club, to the sports centre and swimming pool and the ice skating rink The star turn however, is the snow tube ride centre. This is a purpose built (in ice) series of rollercoaster rides of varying steepness – which you whizz down, through twists and turns on an adapted inner tube, fully equipped with handles. It sounds wild – and it is not for the faint hearted – but it is extremely well managed, and safety is a very obvious priority. It is a great fun evening, and people keep on coming back for more !
