Paradise on Snow

If any resort typifies the advantages of combining a traditional alpine village with a purpose built ski resort – this must be it. Guaranteed snow – (with the biggest summer ski glacier in Europe, there is hardly going to be a problem in the winter, we think), top class piste preparation, and a selection of pistes and lifts, starting and finishing in the centre of the resort, skiing is a happy and pleasurable experience here.

Add to this a massive ski and snowboard area, a huge snowboard park, a ski fun area, your very own glacier for the week and some very gentle green beginner pistes, some flattering and cruisy blues, numerous reds which vary from relaxingly satisfying to mildly intimidating and finally fifteen blacks that start at intimidating and end at awesome, then you are pretty well set up for a memorable winter sports holiday. Don’t forget the really serious part of the resort, the world famous “La Grave” itinerary glacier run (the other glacier !) – very off piste, and only to be skied with a qualified guide – and in favourable conditions.

And after skiing ? Well, Les Deux Alpes may not be the prettiest village in the Alps, but it is definitely one of the friendliest and liveliest ! Innumerable bars, restaurants, clubs, pizzerias, shops, supermarkets and speciality sports and food shops populate the main streets – and they ensure a well populated town throughout the day and night. Make use of the free shuttle bus, which operates from early in the morning to late at night to go from one side of the resort to the other – or take a 20 minute stroll to take it all in.

Still got energy after a hard day skiing ? How about the squash courts, some ice-driving, hiring a snowmobile, tobogganing, a visit to the cinema, or a refreshing dip in the outdoor swimming pool, followed by a sauna or a Turkish bath ? There is also a floodlit piste for evening skiers, if you really just cannot get enough.
