The “resort” of La Plagne actually consists of ten interlinked smaller resorts, each with it’s own particular characteristics. Plagne Bellecote is a compact self contained resort, starting at a height where a lot of resorts finish, and ideal for groups. The skiing is to all intents and purposes, doorstep, and this accommodation is at 1,930m.
La Plagne - Beginner - intermediate - expert - international circuit racer - this is not a resort to be taken lightly. With massive amounts of on-piste skiing - unlimited off piste, and as much variety as you will find in her sister resort of Les Arcs, you underestimate La Plagne at your peril. Or rather, at the expense of your very tired and aching thighs. Ski from the top of the resort, the desolate and memorable Bellecote glacier, right down to the charming and unforgettable farming village of Les Coches. Stop and grab a cake in the irresistible “patisserie” - and then be on your way again if you are going to make it back in time for dinner. Steep and deep or easy blues - life can be as demanding or as relaxing as you want it to be. On piste you can access on skis all the resorts (ten of them) on the piste map, and stop for lunch, or a beer, or a refreshing swim - but we will come to that ! Numerous shops of all specialities, night clubs, bars, restaurants, take away food outlets, a church, a cinema, a free shuttle bus linking your neighbouring resorts - we could go on but we are running out of space !
La Plagne - ( Bellecote ). (This resort is at a height of 1,930m).
The apartment accommodation is central to the resort. There are, of course, numerous bars and clubs. The ski hire shop is in the same building as the apartments, as is the ski school. All the other facilities, including the departure of the cable cars, (the Roche de Mio takes you directly to the Bellecote glacier without stopping) are within easy walking distance of your accommodation. And then we come to the swimming pool - the outdoor swimming pool - yes, you are reading correctly. Heated, admittedly, but outdoor, definitely ! We do suggest that this is perhaps a late season activity, rather than something for a January afternoon, with a blizzard blowing, but even then swimming and sunbathing whilst all those around you are skiing is an unusual experience to say the least. Access is free on your ski pass. Lastly, take the cable car up to sample the bars in Belle Plagne one evening for another unusual experience – it runs until 01.00 every morning. Even if you do miss the last departure, the walk back is only around 2km, and it is all downhill.
